People are increasingly mobile today and often the easiest way to contact someone or to stay in touch is by email. But what happens if they have multiple email addresses or you don't know what their email address is. It isn't always easy and many people are asking how to find someones email address.

If the people you are looking to contact use the email address provided by their ISP, then it can be difficult to find without using paid services. If they use a Web based email service (like Gmail or Hotmail) then it can be easier because you may be able to search the database associated with those services. Fortunately, if people are using Web based email address then they are likely to keep using them for a long time which can be helpful.

Initially, I would contact friends and acquaintances to see whether you can identify a persons email address from them. If you have received an email from the person in the past trying searching back through old emails. You may have a business or contact card from this person which also contains their email address.

Failing that you may need to broaden your search. If you went to school with that person then you may be able to find them on the websites of those institutions or search their work website if you know where they are employed. If the person is a professional then there are specialised websites that they may be associated with or they may have a profile on Linked In.

With the rise of Social Media sites over the last few years it may be possible that they have registered on those sites like Facebook, Twitter or MySpace. You can usually search those sites directly or via the search engines. You may not be given their specific email address but those sites do usually allow you to send a message to them if they are a registered member.

Over the last few years many public database are now available online and services have developed that allow you to conduct a reverse email search using the persons name. Usually all that is required is the persons first and last name and their email address is then revealed. Usually these services require a small payment, but the advantage is that other information may be available for that person other the email address like their current mailing address etc.

If all else fails, I would try putting in the persons name into Google (or your favourite search engine). If they have a common name then there may be a lot of returns so it is helpful if you can modify the search with other information about them like a middle name or the place they live. If the person has been active online then it is very likely you will be able to find a website where they are registered and where you can send a message or find an email.

If all of the suggestions for how to find someones email address don't work for you, then it may be possible that they don;t have an email address (not everyone has embraced the Internet yet) or that they don't want to be contacted. If they only have an email provided by their Internet Service Provider than that won't have been registered in a searchable public directory. Although, these days very few people don't have an email address so the chances are good that you will be able to find their email if you look diligently enough.
